DBAI established our street presences at prominent spots in Coimbatore since 1995 to save the runaway and street children from anti social elements and from becoming child labourers. At present we have established Street contact centers in Ukkadam Railway station, in Singanallur Bus Stand, in Gandhi Puram Bus Stand, and in Pollachi Bus stand. 3,247 children are redeemed and brought to the Anbu Illam from 2000-2016.
The Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) is a central Government sponsored scheme aimed at building a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances, as well as other vulnerable children, through Government-Civil Society Partnership. ICPS (Open Shelter) Scheme was implemented in the year 2010 in DBAI under the Ministry of Women and child Development. Open Shelter follows the Rules and Regulations issued by State Government / Social Welfare. We provide identify children who have come away from their homes through Street Contact Centre and are brought to the Open Shelter to provide temporary care until they are permanently entrusted to the care of their parents. 857 children have received temporary shelter and are made to join family from 2010 to 2016.
Child Line is a national, 24 hour, free, emergency, phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection. It is entrusted to DBAI by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, since 1999. We rescue and rehabilitate children at risk in Coimbatore, that includes children victimized of physical, verbal, emotional and sexual abuse, child marriage, Trafficked children, Run away children, Begging children, child labourers, and children in other difficult circumstances. We also create awareness to capacitate child protection among children and people through street play and animations in schools and noted areas. 7,355 children have been benefited through reception unit from 1999 to 2016.
Child Welfare Committee in Coimbatore District functions in the premises of Don Bosco Anbu Illam. Don Bosco Anbu Illam acts as a reception unit for CWC since 2008. It’s a Govt. home for children in need of care and protection under Juvenile Justice Act. The children rescued through childline, Street contact, Police, Anti Human Trafficking Unit ( AHTU ) are produced to the CWC. It provides temporary shelter services for children who are permitted by the Child Welfare Committee for the period ranging from 1 week to 90 days to know the real interest of a child for better rehabilitation by the CWC Board. During this temporary period of stay the children are provided with counseling and all facilities like temporary shelter, food, clothing, recreation and Non-formal education. 1,969 children have been benefited through reception unit from 2008 to 2016.
DBAI shelters about 80 school children (60 boys at Ukkadam 20 boys at Vellakinar). Besides this, it also accommodates about 20 youngsters who are above 18 to pursue their higher studies with part time job and facilitates their reintegration into society. 3,888 children have been benefited through shelter home from 1994 to 2016.
CBO ensures Children’s welfare and rights in the five slums (N.P. Ittery, Mathamalai, Konavaikan palayam, Vaikal palayam, Kalaingar Nagar, Ondiputhur) of Coimbatore through various initiatives to create a child friendly society.
Vazhikaatti caters to Career guidance and job placement services to youngster.
